The dad was dog sitting. He was helping someone out. He was being kind. It’s not even a hard job. But, it’s one of the more common ways to die via dog fighting or sport breeds.

His death is a reminder that our choices can change our trajectory if we are willing to acknowledge innate risk.

Choosing to not bring these dogs into our homes and choosing to not care for these dogs is a way to 100% avoid being mauled or killed in the specific dogsitting scenario.

We can’t control other situations such as when neighbor dogs escape and attack or when a stranger lets their violent dog off leash at a park.

But what we can do is control our own choices. And we can talk about those choices with others in our community. We can begin to refuse to bring these dogs into our homes and refuse to dogsit them in other homes.

This kind man, a father of five, a hard worker who was taking care of his family and trying to be a good friend…endured the horrific agony of slowly being eaten alive by a pitbull type dog. The world is unjust. All we can do is open our eyes and learn to avoid the same fate.

“His devastated older brother Ian Hogg said: “He was my little brother and I loved him to bits. He was one in a million – he’d do anything for anybody.”

That tracks with the triad in the disordered personality topic. The disordered person (someone who enjoys owning a deadly dog) is leaning on a busy giver (the father of five who is overworking and helping everyone.) This is also known as the taker/giver cycle. One person takes and one person gives.

Say no, Kind People. Say no to them. In the end, they don’t care about you. And neither will the public, as they all rush to defend the murdering dog before your body even rests in the ground.
