It always hits a little closer to home when the victims remind us of our children. I think of my 10 year old redhead and wonder how I’d even continue if I was responsible for my child being torn apart by essentially backyard breeder war dogs. 😓 I can’t even comprehend this madness. Mark my words, in the future, people will look back at this peak of Dog Delulu and shake their heads.
Say hello to 9 year old Shirlee Barney. She was living out a normal day when she was asked to go outside to turn off the water faucet. 🚿
For reasons unknown or not publicly disclosed, the family’s two Cane Corsos 🐕 fatally mauled her. They took her time on her, with an estimated ten minutes of mauling.
If you’ve ever worked with a Cane Corso up close and have a reference for the size of a typical 9 year old, this is quite a horrifying vision. 😨 Shiree never stood a chance against these two dogs.
The mother released a public statement on social media. I am quoting it here as she has since deleted it following the police investigation of the parents.
“This past week our sweet daughter, Shiree, graduated from Earthly Angel to Heavenly Angel. For multiple years we had guard dogs that had been trustworthy with our children. Shiree went outside by herself for just 10 minutes to turn off the water lines and they attacked and killed her in that short time. We were completely shocked and devastated. But, we found comfort in knowing that she would have felt no pain. We have felt God’s healing and peace through all this.
Shiree has always been very loving, joyful, and full of light! She is such a sweet, giving, and obedient girl. She loves our Heavenly Father deeply and has a deep testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. She is so valiant! We know that she is happy to be reunited with our Savior, and with her older sister. And we know that we will see her again. She is dancing in heaven now.”
RIP, Shiree. 🪦 Your life was barely beginning before dogs snuffed it out for no reason at all. Our world will never know you fully, but we promise we will do our best to never forget. May your small, bright light shine ✨ on so that parents around the world have a chance to choose better for their own children. Let your deep testimony show other parents that you can own certain dogs for years and still can never let down your guard. At any moment, they still represent a deadly risk to children. 💔
