This post was written on Mother’s Day to honour Courtney, and all mothers who fought bravely to protect their children.

This Mother’s Day, as you put those beautiful flowers into a vase or enjoy breakfast in bed, please take a moment to remember Courtney Williams Cox. Say her name. Don’t allow her story to be another faded headline.

And please remember all of the moms who have endured the unspeakable horror of watching their loved ones experience relentless mauling from dogs. Remember their selflessness as moms when they jumped into the attack without a thought for their own safety. Remember their hearts shattering.

Hearts broken 💔 families broken 😞 and little to no justice ever found.

Mother’s Day doesn’t have the lighthearted glow to it these days, as the stories of sorrow and grief continue to accumulate every year. If we tried to share all of the mothers’ stories, we would have to post every minute of every hour.

And in a world where so much suffering already exists from complex, often difficult to avoid situations, it’s absolutely insane that we allow this level of pain to exist, repeatedly, over something as simple as pet management.

Just before Mother’s Day, Courtney and her children were attacked by a pack of off leash dogs. The dogs wandered around, but allegedly belonged to a neighbor.

As the dogs were attacking, an unidentified man driving by was able to get the children into his vehicle and drive to the hospital. During that time, 911 calls sent authorities to the scene where they found Courtney’s body. 💔

Courtney’s sister provided an update soon after on her Facebook:

With a heavy heart I have to say this.  My brother’s wife Courtney Williams Cox passed away yesterday.

The neighbors’ dogs attacked her and the kids. Her son Kayden didn’t get away fast enough,  as he pushed his sister out of harm’s way.  He was hurt pretty bad.  They stapled him up.  He is in pain and at my house resting.”

Reports estimated 13 dogs, but the number was never publicly confirmed. The owner is allegedly well known to authorities and has had multiple reports of hoarding. You can learn more about the history leading up to this case at animals 24-7.

It’s long past time, Folks. Begin to ask over and over again: why are we allowing innocent people to die in an entirely unjustifiable and unnecessary way? Over and over? The dog delulu needs to end now.

Until every Mom comes home safe,
