It’s fascinating the way pitbull owners share common, identifiable characteristics. Beyond the studies on psychopathy and high risk dog ownership, we can see these similarities every day in the mauling cases.
The case of Toby Berkley contains multiple similarities:
- A low income area, Snyder Texas, known as one of the most dangerous cities in the USA.
- A pitbull owner who bred and sold pits kept in neglectful conditions.
- A pitbull owner who displays abnormal attachment, referring to his love for his dogs as if they’re children.
- Little to no common sense regulation in the area.
- No true justice from the courts and no lasting change to prevent future losses.
Toby appeared to be walking to his friend’s home. His friend, Marco, owned multiple dogs that he publicly teased with garden tools and videotaped. He was selling them online.

Police discovered Toby’s body in the street. It was initially investigated as foul play with the Texas Rangers becoming involved.
Toby’s sister, Crystal, spoke out begging for justice. She mentioned how they’re missing Toby in their lives.
“I still believe he’s going to come. We’ve going to face reality. We got to get justice for my brother,” Crystal said. “We can’t see him walk down the street with his Bluetooth music real loud. We don’t get to see his phone calls.”
Marco publicly denied any foul play, claiming he didn’t st@b Toby. He also said he had no idea how his pitbulls got back into their cages. His post was later deleted.

Marco did not, however, remove his memorial posts for his attacking dogs. We see this behavior from almost every pitbull owner after a mauling or fatality. They display more concern for the attacking dogs than the victims. It’s a nearly guaranteed trait in the pitbull lobbying community.

And again, as is usual with pitbull attacks, nothing changed. People can still freely overly breed these animals, neglect them, sell them openly online without ensuring an informed or competent owner is buying them, and evade all consequences after they are responsible for a fatality.
People risk more or pay more money to delete humans in other ways. It’s no wonder pitbull maulings continue to escalate as other disordered or viol&nt citizens realize they can hurt or end people cheaply and without accountability.
In the end, a man and his attackers are buried in the ground. And our society continues to look the other way, placing one type of dog above all other lives.
Time for change,
