🚨𝗛𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗗𝗼𝗴 𝗔𝘁𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗹𝗯𝗮𝗻𝘆 🚨

This is a #dogbiteawareness case update on the fatal attack in #October2024.

A devastating attack took place on October 9th when 59yo James Provost was mauled to death by 𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗼𝗿 𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗴𝘀 in Albany, New York. The dogs, identified as 𝗣𝗶𝘁𝗯𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝗺𝗶𝘅𝗲𝘀, were not licensed and were found at the scene after police arrived. Witnesses reported that James cried out for help as he was attacked, but tragically, he did not survive the mauling.

It turns out that the actual owner of the dogs, 44yo Omar Daniels, is currently serving a 9yr sentence for possession. This sentence started AFTER the attack. The police chief confirmed that Omar’s residence where the dogs were kept had also been previously investigated for possession related issues back in May of 2024.

But it was the 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿 of the dogs who was present during the attack. And although the caregiver cooperated with authorities on scene, to our knowledge, the person was never publicly identified or charged. What other scenario exists where the person in charge can allow negligent homicide and not even be arrested or fined?

This attack raises crucial questions about 𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗴 𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 and the 𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 for breeding and keeping violent dogs in our communities. Authorities removed TWENTY THREE #pit mixes from the property. How many more lives must be lost before stronger laws are put in place?

🦴 𝗗𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗴𝘀 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝗲 regulated and owners must be held accountable for their pets’ actions. This accountability needs to extend up the entire trafficking chain, including pitbull lobbyists, shelters, and others in charge who continue to allow the breeding and trafficking of unsafe dogs.

The reality is that the city permitted Omar to continue breeding and keeping unsafe dogs in a residential setting, breaking even already existing regulations. MONTHS after the dogs fatally mauled an innocent person, Omar was charged with one count of second degree manslaughter, one count of criminally negligent manslaughter and three counts of aggravated cruelty to animals.

It is not enough to arrest and charge these criminals after the fatalities. All of the government infrastructure involved in these cases need to be audited and reformed as well.
