💔 𝗩𝗶𝗸𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗞𝗮𝘀𝗵𝘂𝗯𝗮, 𝟭𝟮, was severely attacked by a pack of stray dogs 🐕 in Chulman, Yakutia (known as Russia’s coldest area) while walking home from school.
📞 𝗛𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝗮 𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗳𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹. “𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗲, 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽! 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗼𝗴𝘀!” She had been talking to her friend on the phone before the dogs attacked, so her friend heard all of it. Helpless, her friend listened to Victoria cry out for her. “Ler, Ler, Ler!” Her friend, Ler, heard a final scream above the barking dogs and then nothing.
🔴 𝗔 𝗳𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿’𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗲: Viktoria’s father rushed to the scene after Ler desperately called him, but it was too late. The dogs had ripped off her scalp and left her critically wounded. Over a dozen stray dogs had participated in the frenzied attack.
🕰 𝗦𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲. The attack happened at 5 PM in a residential area where no child should fear for their life. Reports showed that Viktoria suffered from brain swelling, organ failure and shredded soft tissue all over her body. The team of medical staff attempted to fight for her life with mechanical ventilation but the damage was too severe. She was so critical, they could not transfer her to a bigger hospital. Viktoria passed away from her wounds two days later. 🪦
💐 𝗔 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: Her funeral was publicly announced and the community gathered together with a designated day of mourning.
👀 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘀𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗲: A Good Samaritan who helped transport her to the hospital made a public statement:
“A pack of about a dozen wild dogs attacked a very young girl here. You can still see the traces on the ground.
They attacked her so badly, her scalp was torn off. I helped her father carry her to the hospital. Just what are we supposed to make of it, fellow people?”
😞 𝗔 𝗳𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿’𝘀 𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗳: Viktoria’s father, Valery, shared his heartbreak, “I’ve been to hell over this. I was in hell. This is a horrendous tragedy. Our local council can’t do a thing to regulate the number of these dogs, by which I mean putting them down, due to the existing laws.” (Notice how it’s the same issue globally!)
🚨 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: In the wake of Viktoria’s death, rumors flew around that vigilantes planned to find the stray dogs after local officials failed to act. This seemed to encourage action from them. Authorities have since captured 15 dogs suspected of the attack and confirmed they would be humanely ——.
⚖ 𝗔 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱, but questions remain:
- Who is responsible for this tragedy?
- Why weren’t these dogs removed earlier?
- How many more children have to suffer before real action is taken?
