Kane was legally declared adopted before he was allegedly dispatched.

Here’s a long one, but worth reviewing to see the many failures and unethical behaviors within the rescue dog industry that continue to lead to animal cruelty and human risk.

Those of you who are familiar with the tactics in the rescue world might catch all of it while reading, but I’d like to connect some dots for those who are new to the topic:

  1. To maintain no-kill status, shelters need to keep a ratio of adoptions to BE. This is necessary for them to carry the designation. This labeling also assists with qualifying for tax dollars, city contracts, grants, and other benefits. In other words, we as a society have inadvertently created a conflict of interest in a choice that should rest solely on the best care of animals and protection of communities.
  2. You’ll note once this dangerous dog was finally listed for dispatch, they hurried to “adopt” the dog. This wasn’t ceremonial. This was legal and again, for reason #1 above.
  3. Notice how the dangerous situations are not disclosed at all in Kane’s adoption ad. Rescues/shelters have ZERO laws requiring them to disclose behavioral issues or even prior attacks. They can outright lie and omit critical details. And they do this regularly. #buyerbeware
  4. It’s been a consistent finding that when BE is finally broached, some rescues attempt to lie about doing it, then traffic the dog across state lines with a new identity. When you see behavior like what’s in this story, it’s a red flag 🚩 for trafficking dangerous dogs. In the end, it does seem that Kane was actually dispatched as the other person put up a fight and appeared on scene.

Kane’s story is a reminder that this unchecked industry regularly exploits dogs and people, not only abusing them but also repeatedly putting the community at risk. They will not do the right thing unless forced.

It’s time to stop naively believing that this industry is filled with altruistic people who can operate on their own without any oversight.
