A Mississippi man, Timothy Sanders, has been sentenced to a total of 15 years following a violent incident involving a pregnant pitbull known as Baby Girl.
Sanders received:
• 10 years for committing an act of unnatural intercourse
• 5 years for felony animal cruelty
Most of the sentence must be served day for day, with very limited opportunity for early release.
According to investigators, in October 2024 Sanders was discovered restraining Baby Girl and engaging in a coercive act. The incident was reported immediately, leading to his arrest, formal charges, and an eventual guilty plea.
Upon release, Sanders will be required to register as an offender, ensuring long term public accountability.
This is exactly the kind of sentencing that protects communities and upholds justice for victimized animals. Strong, decisive action like this should be the standard in every courtroom.
Often, pitbull advocates laugh at and dismiss the valid concerns of animal welfare and community safety advocates who have long warned that an underlying tendency exists in the pit culture. This man is a reminder that our concerns are correct and that we need to continue to connect the dots.
Until every dog is safe,
