Some Dogs Are NOT Pets – Ireland found a meme with scientific misinformation. And I just wanted to take a moment to break down how Meta is being misused to generate income. The pitbull lobby is heavily focused on money, but my guess is most of the pitbull misinformation on Meta is from opportunistic hackers, not necessarily pit promoters.
You can see by the number of emojis and hashtags that this page is just a content farm. Someone probably owns 100s of them and is churning content like this to the tune of thousands of dollars of profit monthly. I doubt they have any opinions at all about the topic. They’re just posting whatever makes them money off their cash cows: older Americans on meta who have #dogdelulu.
Meta needs massive overhaul for many reasons and this is one of them.
Here’s how you can identify fraudulent pages churning content for money.
- New page yet tons of followers or members in their always matching group (groups with pages can be gamed to increase your engagement.) this indicates they bought bots
- Tons of admins yet all fake profiles (usually all from the same agency or person.) Most of the admins are just additional fake pages if you glance at them. Misusing categories and hashtags and generating AI content.
- Notice the two profiles that aren’t pages look barely real, but if you visit them, you can see more fraud. The multiple check ins are to look valid for meta’s ai.
- Off topic hashtags and emojis get past different AI thresholds for spam. They’ll also often copy/paste or AI-generate random, unrelated stories and paragraphs.
- Massive number of followers on a new page yet zero engagement from the business with other pages or creators
Don’t think that just bc they’re farming for money, they’re inattentive. When I started to comment all this, a page admin blocked me. It was about a 60 second lag time. They’re watching.
Be safe out there. Be wise. Go into the heart of these and block everyone on your way out. They like to maliciously report, abusing Meta’s system again.
