Today we remember Zamora Jaxlyn Saphari Wider. At 3 months old, she was just beginning to forge her path in the world before her light was extinguished in an Augusta, GA home. The investigation is ongoing, so these are just the first details.

Zamora’s mom hasn’t had an easy life, but she was trying her best as a brand new parent to do what she could for her baby. She sought safety and refuge at the large, six bedroom home where she herself was previously a foster child.
The foster parents also have current foster children in the home. 🏠 So it only makes sense that Zamora’s mom, Cari Robinson, would view this place as a safe choice for her baby.
But within that home was a bloodsport dog, alleged to be a Cane Corso.
Police arrived around 9AM on Saturday to find Zamora being fatally mauled by the dog. Despite their efforts to save her, Zamora did not survive.
Cari shared on social media:
“From the moment she arrived, she changed our whole world…you softened it, brightened it, and filled every corner with purpose…Zamora, you are everything we prayed for and everything we didn’t even know we needed. In just 31 days you’ve shown us strength, sweetness, attitude, and a personality that’s already shining through. You’re growing, stretching, learning, and reminding us every day that love can be tiny and powerful at the same time.”
This mom wanted to do everything she could to protect and love her precious new baby. What she thought was the right choice instead turned out to be a fatal ending.
Cases like Zamora’s show us where we have work to do as safety advocates. Not only in our efforts to improve educational outreach to individual parents like Cari, but also in areas such as changing legislation to improve foster parenting standards for owning and keeping animals in a foster home.
Baby Zamora is a reminder that our actual systems need to be updated to reflect standards of safety and common sense surrounding dog ownership.
As we remember Zamora, the adorable baby who brightened this world for a brief moment, let’s all join together with renewed strength to continue calling on our leaders for effective, logical legislation and standards across our communities.
Please keep Zamora’s family, especially Cari, in your prayers.
