Just musing on a pet theory…I think in the general timeframe of 2020-onwards, dog fighting evolved in a modern way that no one anywhere is discussing.
Perhaps it was due to the lockdowns and authorities being distracted. People were sent home or lost their jobs and turned to criminal behavior to fill the time. Everyone else was inside their homes and glued to the news. Authorities only cared about one issue and let other crimes slide.

I think some really evil modern dog men created even worse pits than most can imagine. Not like wild animals. Not like the wolf. Undead, breaking any concept of restraint or prudence. They lacked the wisdom or tradition of prior dog fighting communities. Like the blind leading the blind.
Then as the lockdowns ended and people had to go back to work or authorities got back to non corona investigations, they dumped the majority of the fighting dogs in clusters.
And the shelters then (intentionally or not) broke up these clusters by dispersing the dogs across the nation. They trafficked those dogs across the country so they were all spread out instead of at the same few dumping sites. Renamed, cleaned up, no history, shipped over state lines and passed on to new hands without anyone knowing where they came from or what they were bred to fulfill.
Just to toss a number out. Say 200 super gladiators were sent to 200 different shelters and adopted out as normal strays during the “rescue them all” phase of the pandemic. Each of them inappropriate as pets. But all of them far from each other and anonymized so that it couldn’t be tracked.
As each one attacks, authorities and pit advocates try to assert two things:
- It was seemingly random without any cause or reason.
- It’s rare, one of only a few in that particular area, and has no connection to any other dog attack.
Additionally, as each year goes by after 2020, we are experiencing the initial wave of the aging gladiators randomly mauling. But also secondary waves from any of the gladiators that spawned litters.
And overall, these attacks are shaping a new modern culture where advocates shout that it’s normal for dogs to attack and that any dog can hurt your family.
Necropsy and a DNA database after severe maulings and fatal maulings would be one way to begin exposing this pattern. If my theory is correct, authorities would start to see litters and bloodlines form a puzzle across the country.
What do you think?
